Mattias Selldén
Dwelling in between the traditional categories, Mattias Selldén's practice is very technique and material based, working primarily in wood and mainly by hand.
Mattias Selldén is a Stockholm-based artist with a master's degree from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design. Since 2020 he has been entangled in a dialogue with Friedman Benda NY gallery and exhibited in New York, Basel and Stockholm.
Dwelling in between the traditional categories, Mattias’ practice is obviously very technique and material based, working primarily in wood and mainly by hand. Not very conceptual at all, and to a very high degree, namely, practical. Think he does through his hands, he says, preferably with tools, lumber and paint within arms reach. Improvisation or intuition has become vital in the process while seeking a dissonance between traditional methods and contemporary expression. Connecting the past with the present, perhaps into a speculative future?
